Paula en el pensamiento - 2

Sus hijos e hijas, con los genes paternales y pareja, vivían con los cambios sociales experimentados, los cuales habían transformado los modelos de la sociedad. Ya no era posible tapar las manchas de la piel con un vestido blanco. Las telas sociales eran demasiado traslúcidas. Todo se veía muy claramente a través. Sólo era necesario fijarse atentamente. Paula había heredado la pasión sexual de su padre. Y ella lo sabía. Lo descubrió de muy joven cuando algo le hizo buscar sus primeros amantes. De su edad, jovencitos imberbes miedosos y sin experiencia. Luego llegaron hombres adultos, maduros, casados. Combinaba fracasos estruendosos con personas capaces de hacer cosas maravillosas. Su juventud hacía que lo absorbiera de forma especial. Hasta que una relación de verano conllevó algunos cambios imprevistos. Sexo sin control y todo lo demás que vino luego... Sin darse cuenta habían pasado doce años.

En el edificio de apartamentos en el que vivían, de gran fachada y aspecto exterior, habitaban otras familias de aspecto diversamente homogéneo. Repetían los directivos bancarios con su falsa apariencia de grandes hombres de negocios mientras su olor a funcionario era inconfundible. Los llamados profesionales liberales también tenían algún que otro representante. De entre todos ellos, un arquitecto reluciente sabía destacar. Relucía su todo-terreno último modelo, relucía su rostro recién pasado por esteticienne, brillaban sus tarjetas doradas. Su esposa, pelo negro y tersa piel bronceada también relumbraba. Ellos sí. Aparentaban poder económico sin forzar. Lo tenían. Estaba claro que por su nivel de vida y por sus gastos en cosas materialmente superfluas tenían 'todo el dinero' necesario. Que envidia. Y además eran guapos.
Paula soñaba, deseaba poder llegar a aquel punto. Sabía que era difícil, inalcanzable. Su marido era aburrido en la cama y también en los negocios. Jaime, el arquitecto de bello rostro y atléticas cuentas corrientes, le saludada las mañanas que coincidían en algún punto de la escalera o los rellanos. Nunca en el ascensor. Él bajaba desde la tercera planta hasta la calle andando. Aquellas costumbres de los ejecutivos que quieren estar en forma. Salía cada día a la misma hora en dirección en su oficina a dos manzanas de allí.
El no había seguido nunca aquella mirada rastreadora que Paula le había dejado como cebo. Nunca había reaccionado a los comentarios en clave que había hecho. Sabía que no era estúpido, tampoco distraído, por lo tanto entendía que no parecía intersarle.

Una de esas mañanas, Paula salió de su apartamento en dirección al ascensor con prisa puesto que oyó que alguien accionaba la puerta. Cerró su puerta con un golpe seco y se apresuró para aprovechar el viaje, le ahorraría unos segundos insignificantes respecto del siguiente viaje. No era tarda pero la costumbre le hacía actuar de esa forma.

- Buenos días Paula –surgió del interior-.
Su corazón de aceleró. Era Jaime quien estaba dentro.
- Ho-Hola –balbuceó-
Forzó su mente para no parecer o decir cosas estúpidas en aquel momento. A pesar de todo la frase que compuso era una verdadera trivialidad.
- ¡Tu utilizando el ascensor!. Creo que es la primera vez que te veo hacerlo.
- Ayer me hice una distensión en el tobillo derecho... Aquí, en esta zona. No puedo hacer demasiados movimientos. Me han recomendado masajes...
No fue capaz de reaccionar de forma inmediata. El ascensor llegó al vestíbulo. Jaime abrió la puerta, le permitió el paso y él siguió hacia el aparcamiento, cambiando también el hábito de ir a trabajar andando para utilizar el automóvil en un desplazamiento de unos centenares de metros.
Se encontró de nuevo sola, inmóvil en el centro de las placas de mármol que conformaban el vestíbulo del edificio.
Jaime, ya en el interior de su vehículo pensaba. Después de tantos años, había sentido algo al ver a Paula. Estaba claro que era una mujer atractiva, que sabía sacar partido de su físico, y su forma de mirar. Dentro del ascensor, en la corta distancia, le había alterado, sin duda. Olía a un perfume que le recordó a cierta amiga colegial que tuvo antes de los dieciséis y con la que no llego más allá de besos, caricias y paseos de la mano por algún parque lleno de otoño.

Paula estacionaba su utilitario en la calle. 'Es más práctico' decía a su círculo de conocidos. La realidad era que de esta forma podía ahorrar el dinero del aparcamiento. Tomó dirección a su tienda con su mente ocupada en el encuentro de la mañana. Hacía mucho tiempo que no se sentía tan turbada... Y realmente no había para tanto.
